Boca Raton, Florida -
US Spinal Technologies, an emerging leader
in the development and manufacture of innovative spinal implants,
has announced plans for the commercial release of its first FDA cleared
product, the LTD Polyaxial Pedicle Screw System, at the 19th annual
North American Spine Society meeting, to take place later this month
in Chicago, Illinois. The product will be released under the name
Preference™, and will be on display at the US Spine exhibit,
alongside future products in the companyâs development pipeline.
The North American Spine Society (NASS) is a non-profit, multidisciplinary medical
organization that advances quality spine care through education, research and
advocacy. NASS has nearly 4,000 members from all over the globe, with the majority
(95%) in North America, and membership in the organization has nearly tripled
in the last five years. The 19th Annual Meeting will attract over 2,500 attendees
and well over 120 companies with over 1,700 representatives. The overall objective
of this meeting is to present current research and data, promote discussion of
new scientific developments and foster research and training in the field of
spinal disorders. The Annual Meeting has grown to become one of the largest specialty
meetings in the United States, second only to the American Academy of Orthopedic
Surgeons (AAOS).
The company has also announced that it will expand into a new 9,500 square foot
facility on November 8, 2004. The new building will house the companyâs administrative
offices, product warehouse, distribution services, and prototyping and testing
shops, and will serve as the headquarters for North
American operations. "This facility will act as the focal point of our business
strategy, by creating a state-of-the-art environment that allows us to bring
together the most important aspects of product development under one roof",
said
Doris Blake, President and Founder of US Spine. "Our collaborating surgeons
can now team with our engineers to take a concept from napkin sketch, to detailed
computer model, to physical prototype, and biomechanical testing, all in one
place. Our engineers no longer have to wait for weeks at a time for prototypes
to be machined off-site. With this facility, they will be able to oversee the
machining of prototypes 100 feet from their offices, allowing quality control
typically not found in smaller organizations. Combine that level of efficiency
and quality with the tremendous resources of FAU and their Cadaveric and teaching
facilities, and we now have the capabilities to take market share away from our
much larger competitors."
The company recently announced it had reached agreements with Berkeley Advanced
Biomaterials and DCI Donor Services, for the supply and distribution of Tri-calcium
Phosphate and Allograft Bone products. US Spine is expected to commercially release
these products prior to the end of 2004.
