Simcha J. Weller, M.D.
Simcha J. Weller, MD, Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at Boston Institute of Neurosurgery at Tufts-New England Medical Center, began an excellent diversity of educational credentials and surgical expertise in neurosurgery by first receiving his B.A. degree at Yeshiva University, New York, NY (Biology, Summa Cum Laude). He earned his medical degree from University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, Philadelphia, PA, completing both his internship and residency from Brigham & Women's Hospital, Boston, M.A.; Department of General Surgery. Dr. Weller continued his medical career under the direction of Edward Benzel, M.D. at the Clinical Fellowship in Complex and Reconstructive Spinal Surgery, at University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, NM, Division of Neurosurgery.
Dr. Weller has held other highly esteemed academic positions, such as Clinical Instructor, Department of Surgery (Division of Neurosurgery) University of New Mexico (1996-97) and Instructor in Surgery at Harvard Medical School (1997-2005). Dr. Weller¿s special interests include Complex and Reconstructive Spine Surgery, Spinal Microsurgery, Surgical Treatment of Cervical Spondylotic Myeloradiculopathy, Spine Tumors, and Spine Trauma.
John Sledge, M.D.
Dr. Sledge earned his BA degree from Wesleyan University in Connecticut. He went
on to earn his MD from the University of Rochester in New York. He completed
his residency in orthopedics at Harvard University as well as becoming Chief
Resident of Orthopedics at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston. He earned
the
Maurice Muller Fellowship in Orthopedics (foreign study in Europe).
Dr. Sledge’s background is strongly rooted in an academic setting accepting positions
as Director of Orthopedic Trauma Service at Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Assistant
Professor of Orthopedics at Boston University School of Medicine, and Clinical
Associate in Orthopedics at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Dr. Sledge
has authored 15 articles and abstracts, 18 presentations, as well as conducting
current clinical research related to spinal injuries. He currently has an active
orthopedic clinical practice in
Massachusetts.
Mick Perez-Cruet,
M.D., M.Sc.
Dr. Perez-Cruet is the Director of Minimally Invasive Spinal Surgery at Rush-Presbyterian
St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago. Dr. Perez-Cruet received his MS in Chemistry
from University of South Florida. He went on to earn his MD from Tuft’s University
in Boston. He completed a fellowship in minimally invasive spinal surgery at
Rush University in Chicago under Richard Fessler, MD.
Dr. Perez-Cruet currently holds an academic position as Assistant Professor
at Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medial Center Chicago/Institute of Neurosurgery
and Neuroresearch in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Perez-Cruet has authored a textbook
on outpatient spinal surgery. Moreover, he has authored over 30 articles and
abstracts and has made 19 presentations at medical meetings across the country.
Dr. Perez-Cruet is currently the principal investigator in several clinical
research studies on a wide variety of aspects of spinal surgery.
Ziya L. Gokaslan, MD, F.A.C.S., Director.
Ziya Gokaslan, MD, has been a board
certified neurological surgeon for 22 years. Dr. Gokaslan received
his Doctorate of Medicine from University of Istanbul. He went on to
pursue post-graduate work at New York University, New York and
Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. Dr. Gokaslan has
received academic appointments which include: Clinical Assistant
Professor of Neurosurgery at Baylor College of Medicine, Assistant
Professor of Neurosurgery at University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer
Center, and most recently, Professor of Neurosurgery at Johns
Hopkins University School of Medicine. In addition, Dr. Gokaslan
currently serves as Vice-Chairman in the Department of Neurosurgery,
Neurosurgical Spine Program at Johns Hopkins University School of
Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Gokaslan has extensive
publications, abstracts, lectures, exhibitions, presentations and
book chapters to his credit covering a range of spine topics. He has
also managed a fellowship program for over a decade. Dr. Gokaslan
was appointed program co-chairman of the North American Spine
Society in 2004.
